Chretien: The Saga of Colour Couture - A Pseudo-History of an Iconic Brand

Join us as we navigate through the twists and turns of Chretien's captivating pseudo-history, uncovering the profound impact it has made on the world of fashion. From its rebellious roots to its enduring legacy, Colour Couture...

The captivating tale of Colour Couture begins with the fictional character, Robert R. Couture, a rebellious young man burdened by the weight of his father's great expectations. Raised in prestigious boarding schools, he eventually attended Mary Lyons College, breaking away from the path his father had set for him. However, seeking a different direction in life, Robert dropped out of college and embarked on a transformative journey across Europe, immersing himself in the rich tapestry of experiences aboard cruise liners and trains.

His adventures led him to London, where he established a unique living space resembling the dormitories of his youth. By offering affordable accommodations to travelers, Robert created an environment reminiscent of his own boarding school days. This innovative concept of budget-friendly and socially diverse accommodations would later be recognized as hostels, revolutionizing the way people travel and interact.

In 1955, Robert received a poignant telegram from his ailing father, urging him to complete his education and bring honor to their family name. Devastated by his father's passing, Robert returned to Mary Lyons College that fall and successfully graduated, haunted by his quest to find the true meaning of life.

During his travels, Robert found himself in Rome, where he encountered a French/Italian woman who bestowed upon him profound wisdom. She enlightened him with the notion that life is like the colors adorning the Sistine Chapel ceiling – a reflection of the essence projected by individuals into the world. To understand life, one must be free and escape the confines of definition.

Inspired by this newfound understanding and fueled by his love for Chretienne, Robert established Colour Couture by Robere-Chretien in 1973, the year she tragically passed away. Initially focused on collecting rare colorful gemstones, custom paintings, and fabrics, the company underwent a transformative shift in 1982 when Robert departed for London and never returned.

Colour Couture transitioned into a renowned fashion retail store, with designs arriving in packages bearing the name Robere-Chretien, addressed from hostels worldwide. Each package contained a postcard with the Italian phrase "Excappare definitio!" – a reminder that true freedom lies in transcending definitions and embracing the realm of fantasy.

Though the story suggests that the company is still managed by the Coutures, it remains an enchanting tale, weaving themes of adventure, youth, rebellion, honor, family, love, respect, devotion, and the vibrant representation of the colors of life.

As you explore the world of Colour Couture, let this narrative serve as a captivating backdrop, inviting you to embrace the spirit of exploration, self-discovery, and the beauty found within the ever-changing hues of existence.
